Heaven on earth – Land Activities on Mana Island

Not to be outdone by the ocean, the graceful and exquisite terrain of Mana Island offers a host of activities for guests who seek more grounded entertainment.

Every day on Mana Island is designed to be different from the last – so every day ushers in new activities to participate in and try.

Bush Walks

These walks are a wonderful combination of fun, exercise, and education.  Explore the island’s more secluded and less visited regions with an experienced guide who can point out to you indigenous flora, fauna, and wildlife – such as birds.  Learn what a honeysucker and fruit bat look like as well as finding out which plants were used as healing plants by early Fijians.

Cultural Shows

Every day, Mana Island provides guests with a cultural show of some kind.  Incorporating Fijian, Polynesian, and other Pacific traditions, these performances include dances, shows, and displays of cultural ceremonies.

Grass Skirt Making

Learn to make a grass skirt of your own using the traditional crafting of Fijians.  A weekly event, you use plant stalks to create a lasting souvenir.

Night Activities

Stroll over to the Lounge in the soft Fijian evening air for dancing – both your own and traditional cultural performances – including singing from the local Fijian choir and spirited Fijian mekes.  A nightly bonfire is also sure to spark fun, games, and friendships amongst the guests.

Ta Tavu

Join the staff and fellow travelers for a true Fijian treat – a traditional meal prepared on an actual ‘Tavu’ – the Fijian ancient outdoor open charcoal grill!  Ingredients like seawater, lemons, tomatoes, chilies, onions, and capsicum (a kind of pepper) blend together to create a richly spiced meal finished with a Fijian coconut dessert.  And don’t just watch the cooking – enjoy the food!  An experience you don’t want to miss.

Weaving

Hat Weaving

Weaving is a beautiful part of the Fijian culture both aesthetically and practically.  Watch various weaving displays in the Fijian Bure daily as staff members make hats and baskets from local palms and pandanus.  Watch from the beginning steps of boiling the leaves to the end handcrafted intricately weaved product.  Here, you may also catch the making of “sasa brooms” – a process you watch and then participate in yourself to create souvenir to take home!

Join the staff and fellow guests for fun and exciting goings-on – participate in something new each day for a completely individual Fiji holiday.
